Minister of Information, Dr. Paul Morcos, awarded certificates to correspondents from the National News Agency (NNA) and Télé Liban who participated in the third training session on “Misinformation Verification.”
The five-day program was organized by the ministry in collaboration with UNESCO’s regional office and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) and was conducted by AFP journalist and trainer Joyce Hanna.
The ceremony was attended by Ministry Director-General Dr. Hassan Falha, NNA Director Ziad Harfouche, Minister’s Advisor Dr. Elissar Nadaf, UNESCO’s Communication Program Officer George Awad, AFP’s Beirut Bureau Chief Asser Tabarra, OIF Representative Levon Amirjanyan, and UNESCO Beirut Office Director Costanza Farina.
Minister Morcos congratulated the participants, emphasizing the importance of combating misinformation, which threatens social stability and weakens public trust. He thanked UNESCO, OIF, and AFP for their support and praised journalists’ commitment.
In turn, Farina stressed the critical role of journalists in ensuring accurate news, particularly in times of crisis, highlighting UNESCO’s commitment to media integrity.
Amirjanyan underscored the growing global threat of fake news, amplified by digital technology, and praised the journalists for acquiring vital tools to combat misinformation.
For her part, Tabarra affirmed AFP’s dedication to media accuracy and expressed hope for further collaboration with the ministry in both wartime and peacetime.
Minister Morcos concluded by reiterating the ministry’s commitment to expanding future training initiatives.
