Makary Casts His Vote In Tripoli’s Engineers Syndicate Elections

The electoral process in the Engineers Syndicate in Tripoli continues in a calm democratic atmosphere, with the vote turnout thus far being 2,654 engineers out of 9,453 who have settled their annual subscriptions and are entitled to vote.

The polls will close at 7:30 pm, after which the votes will be counted and the results will be announced.

Casting his vote, Caretaker Information Minister Ziad al-Makary said: “I confirm that despite all the circumstances that the country is going through, which contribute to delaying constitutional entitlements, the elections are taking place today, which means that everything is possible if the will is present.”

He added, “Syndicates respect their electoral deadlines and politicians must learn from that, especially the Northern Engineers Syndicate, and this is the most important message.”

Touching on political interferences, Makary said: “It is natural for politics to interfere, because the parties have an interest in obtaining positions in Lebanese society, and we are counting on the awareness of our non-political colleagues who wish to elect the best for the syndicate and its future…”

He considered that even if the parties intervene, there remains a margin for the non-politicized and those without connections with the parties. “We affirm that syndicate elections are always transparent and conducted with a very high level of professionalism, in the hope that this factor will spread to all Lebanese society,” Makary underlined.
