Caretaker Information Minister Ziad Al-Makari received a delegation from the “Lebanese Center for Justice”, with whom he held an in-depth discussion over the center’s activities.
Makari valued the center’s initiatives and efforts, “especially that few associations are actually tackling the issue of human trafficking, while there are gangs taking advantage of the tragic and humanitarian situation of the Lebanese, particularly those residing in the northern regions who are losing all their life’s earnings to go to death…”
“It is the tragedy they live in Lebanon that drives them to death,” he said, considering that “the first solution is to build a strong and just state that will protect citizens from the prevailing unprecedented economic crisis in Lebanon’s history. “
He added: “Secondly, there is no doubt that the work of the association is very reliable in terms of awareness for those who have the compulsive desire to take the risk of going and leaving their country in order to be swallowed up by the sea; and if they reach their destination and the intended country, they are surprised that these countries also have problems and are not content with receiving displaced people on their land,” Makari went on.
“Therefore, prior awareness in this field is the basis, in addition to psychological treatment for parents who have been bereaved by the drowning of their children or their relatives,” he emphasized.
Makari concluded by encouraging the center in continuing with its efforts in addressing this issue. “What you are doing is very civilized work and we support you, and the Ministry of Information is also ready to support your activities by covering and publishing all your events within the available capabilities and communicating with international associations dealing with such problems,” he asserted.
