The new Minister of Information, Ziad Al-Makari, on Monday underlined, during the handover ceremony at the Ministry of Information, his commitment to the government’s positions, especially the dissociation policy from Arab-Arab differences, which aims to consolidate Lebanon’s internal unity, on one hand, and to preserve, strengthen and improve our relations with Arab countries, on the other hand.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Ministry’s Director General, Dr. Hassan Falha, Director of the National News Agency, Ziad Harfouche, Radio Liban Director Mohammed Gharib, Ministry’s Studies’ Department Head, Khodr Majed, NNA Editor-in-Chief Rana Shehabedine, Tele Liban (TL) Director’s Representative, Viviane Lebbos Sfeir, and a number of Ministry’s heads of departments and figures.
In his delivered word, Minister Al-Makari declared adhering to freedom of expression, which must fall in the interest of the citizen and in the interest of Lebanon, which is going through a critical stage in its history.
The new Minister also hoped that the electoral media will rise to the level of rational and constructive discourse, “instead of the policies that open wounds and dig up the black hateful past.”
For his part, Acting Minister of Information Abbas Al-Halabi said: “Despite our short term of office at the helm of the Ministry of Information, we wanted it to be constructive in cooperation with international bodies and friendly countries. It is an occasion to hand over the Ministry portfolio to you, along with many projects that we hope you will be able to follow up on and conclude to reach their goals.”
Minister Al-Halabi added: “This Ministry is a mirror of the state and deserves care and support, just as the work team- which includes an elite of media professionals and administrators- deserves material and moral fairness to continue carrying out its duties.”
In turn, Dr. Falha thanked Minister Al-Halabi for the efforts he made during his tenure at the helm of the Ministry, and welcomed the new Minister Al-Makari, wishing him success in his new duties for the welfare of Lebanon and the media.
