Caretaker Minister of Information, Manal Abdel Samad, participated Thursday in a session for the House committee of Media and Telecommunications, held under the chairmanship of MP Hussein Hajj Hassan, and devoted to the discussion of a law proposal organizing electronic media.
In her intervention, Abdel Samad highlighted the necessity to endorse a comprehensive media law covering the affairs of all media institutions.
“Electronic sites are media and not a sector. Therefore, it is not logical to devote a special law to the news sites,” she said, adding that such sites are governed by the publications law and the audiovisual media law.
She also indicated that the said law proposal overlooked decree number 6845 which created a department at the Ministry of Information, devoted to organizing the work of electronic media sites.
