Abdel Samad Discusses ‘Right To Information’ Law With Abboud

Caretaker Minister of Information, Dr. Manal Abdel Samad Najd, on Tuesday received in her office at the Ministry, former Minister Fadi Abboud, where they discussed the content of the letter addressed to her by Abboud last week on his observations on “the right to access information” according to its final version as approved by the Parliament.

Speaking on emerging, Minister Abdel Samad indicated that the Ministry of Information is in the process of preparing a media plan on the Right to Information Law, and launching awareness campaigns to introduce said law and define the rights and duties of both state administrations and citizens.

Abdel Samad also indicated that “absolute transparency is the primary key to enhancing the citizen’s confidence in his country and combating corruption, clientelism and favoritism.”

Abdel Samad considered that the ‘right to access information’ law in its current version promotes the culture of transparency in society, as it strengthens the relationship between the administration and the citizen.

In turn, Abboud said that the law on the right to access information is not sufficient to reach the desired transparency, which is the most important link in the fight against corruption.

“Without absolute transparency, fighting corruption in Lebanon may be almost impossible,” Abboud maintained.
