Minister of Public Health, Hamad Hassan, welcomed at his office this Thursday representatives of international organizations operating in Lebanon, among whom the UNRWA’S Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, Claudio Cordone, World Health Organization representative in Lebanon, Iman Shankiti, and UNHCR representative, Mireille Girard.
Minister Hassan indicated that “it was agreed to develop a strategy in which international actors join hands, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Public Health, to ensure the effectiveness and transparency of their efforts, so as to take maximum benefit from the support that is provided.”
The Minister noted that “the joint strategy shall accompany the preventive intervention plan developed by the Ministry of Public Health to combat COVID-19, including the support for government hospitals that carry out their duty in securing healthcare for all residents of Lebanon, without discrimination.”
Hassan underlined “the necessity of ramping up the role of assisting agencies and donors, so as to meet the needs of the public health sector away from any political or regional considerations, on the one hand, and away from quotas and discretionary methods, on the other hand.”
