Banin Charity Association organized a beach cleanup Thursday in the southern city of Sidon.Dozens of volunteers and activists took part in the campaign. The participants from all different ages spent hours picking up litter along the beach near the city’s crusader castle. A project organizer said that volunteers came from all Lebanese cities, including Beirut, Nabatieh, Tripoli, and Tyre. The cleanup followed Lebanon’s largest-ever beach cleanup, which took place last week and was organized by the Environment Ministry under the title “Save Our Face.” Some 7,000 volunteers took part in Save Our Face, but some activists criticized the ministry’s priorities and called on it to focus on imposing laws cracking down on major polluters.
