Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil relaunched a sewage treatment project in Batroun Sunday, the state-run National News Agency reported.
“All of us, heads of municipalities and civil society, are keen to preserve our region and keep a watchful eye on this project to make it a new positive sign for all of you.
This money is not our money, it is your money,” Bassil announced to a crowd of local residents during a media conference in Batroun’s Kfar Abida. In his speech, the minister praised the project as a solution to river pollution, one of Lebanon’s current environmental crises.
He also reiterated his support for the controversial dam projects in nearby Bisri and Janna, which have been widely criticized by environmentalists.
“Nothing frightens us, and whoever makes false accusations increases our determination. … All the projects we committed to in the district of Batroun and at the national level will be implemented,” he said.
